O'Brien offers glimpse into future on PSU caravan
Air Jordan Retro Shoes On SaleALTOONA, Pa. (AP) — Bill O'Brien has quickly put to rest any notion that he plans to stick around as long as the last Penn State football coach.
Don't expect his tenure in Happy Valley to last 46 years.
"I can tell you that 46 years from now, I'll be 88 years old. I promise you that ... I'll start taking golf lessons when I'm about 70," a straight-faced O'Brien said Monday morning. "Hopefully I can last until I'm 70 on this job."
With that question out of the way, the Nittany Lions' new leader can go on introducing himself to the team's massive fan base before he ever coaches a game.www.shoesjordansforcheap.com
O'Brien's comments before about 200 alumni in Altoona started Week 3 of the Penn State coaches caravan. Traveling on a bus retrofitted with the school's blue and white color scheme, the rookie head coach has embarked on an ambitious effort to connect with alumni from Connecticut to Virginia, New York to Ohio.
It's a public relations campaign and media blitz mixed in with a pinch of staff bonding. Other Penn State coaches have boarded the bus, too, including men's basketball coach Patrick Chambers and women's basketball coach Coquese Washington. Hockey coach Guy Gadowsky and men's volleyball coach Mark Pavlik joined O'Brien in Altoona.
But only O'Brien has been at every event, and he's going straight through until the 18th and final stop Wednesday night in Buffalo, N.Y. After each event, fans still anguished in part over the end of the Joe Paterno era appear to be coalescing behind O'Brien.
"I think considering everything that's happened over the last year that this is an occasion for Penn State to get together and look ahead," Nicholas Roslevege, a 1988 graduate, said last week before O'Brien spoke in Hazleton. "People are wishing him the best of luck up there. ... I think that's what people are feeling overall right now."
The Associated Press was allowed to accompany O'Brien on one leg of his caravan last week for stops in Hazleton and Bethlehem and has also covered stops in New York. This story looks at the different roles played by O'Brien at a critical juncture in the school's storied football history.
    ___
THE COACH NEXT DOOR: The black SUV pulled into the parking lot with 10 minutes to spare before the bus was scheduled to depart to Hazleton. Out stepped O'Brien from the driver's seat with a white towel draped over his right shoulder, sporting a look that called to mind another well-known coach.
He wasn't paying homage to retired Georgetown coach John Thompson. It's just a habit that O'Brien said he picked up while coaching on the sideline at his previous stop as offensive coordinator for the New England Patriots. This day, O'Brien was coming from a workout at the gym.
Barely a few seconds into a chit-chat with the bus driver, and O'Brien started poking fun at himself, about how his back hurts after a new workout regime.
Other times, he'll jokingly lament about his receding hairline, or the time he brought a cheesesteak to a brown-bag lunch with fellow Penn State coaches who were eating salads.
"He's just a funny guy," Washington said. "I always find myself laughing when he says something. Maybe it's the way that he says things that makes it really funny."
The sense of humor goes back to his childhood growing up in the suburbs of Boston, the youngest of three boys in an Irish Catholic family

"A lot of (the laughs) were at my expense. So it was a little bit of chop-busting. It's definitely a Boston sense of humor," O'Brien said in an interview with the AP. "These guys are getting used to it, but they all know it's in good fun."new air jordan fusion shoes
O'Brien was hired in early January, but he didn't take over full time until after the Patriots lost the Super Bowl to the New York Giants a month later. He has been a near-constant presence since then on campus and around town, from showing up at basketball games and handing out cupcakes at the student union to giving speeches at community events.
Now he's taken that tireless energy on the road to sign autographs, take pictures and offer his vision for Penn State football. His friendly demeanor and self-deprecating sense of humor have helped him connect with fans.
Unless, of course, he's encountering a fan wearing a New York Jets jersey with cornerback Darrelle Revis' name, as happened while O'Brien left the stadium after the Blue-White spring game last month. The Jets and O'Brien's former employers, the Patriots, are bitter AFC East rivals, so O'Brien gave a terse response when the fan asked for two autographs and a picture.
Recounting the story in Altoona, O'Brien jokingly snapped. "I said, 'No, no and no!'"
    ___
AMBASSADOR O'BRIEN: The prospect of replacing Paterno, Division I's winningest coach with 409 victories, was tough enough even before the crisis that engulfed Penn State last November.
The child sexual abuse scandal involving retired defensive coordinator Jerry Sandusky added a new layer of problems unseen before in college athletics. Sandusky, who is scheduled to stand trial next month, has denied the charges. Paterno was ousted as part of the fallout from the scandal. He died in January at 85, less than three months after being diagnosed with lung cancer.
Despite numerous efforts by university leadership, many alumni remain hurt by how Paterno was let go. It was evident especially in Bethlehem, where four or five questions or comments from fans in an interactive session with O'Brien referenced Paterno or the scandal.
"Thank you for bringing healing to the Penn State family," one fan said, drawing hearty applause.
O'Brien has turned into an ambassador for Penn State's future while various investigations continue to sort out the past. Instead of shying away from potentially touchy subjects like Paterno's legacy — tensions between university leadership and the Paterno family have been high since his ouster — O'Brien embraces the issue head-on.
He has stressed that football is a part — albeit a big part — of the athletic program and the university as a whole, echoing comments made by school leaders. Some critics, especially outside Penn State, have questioned whether football had too much influence at the university in light of the scandal.
At the same time, O'Brien has also been the most vocal voice at Penn State about honoring Paterno, who was held in high regard in the community for his philanthropic and off-field efforts along with his football resume.
"Whenever I meet lettermen, and the effect he had on their lives, I can only hope to fulfill just a small part of that in my career," O'Brien said Monday. "We have a tremendous amount of respect for what coach Paterno did here. ... I can tell you that we will keep his honor, what he stood for and everything he built here. In many, many ways, we'll keep it going because we have so much respect for what he did here."
Most in the crowd of 200 at the Penn State-Altoona gym immediately applauded.
    ___
THE NEW PENN STATE CEO: Any lingering doubts in Bethlehem about who was in charge were likely erased after O'Brien's talk before a crowd of about 400.
With the lights dimmed except for spotlights on the stage, O'Brien spoke passionately on various issues before emerging from behind the podium to offer his vision for the program's future — complete with a PowerPoint presentation. It had the look and feel at times of a motivational speech for a corporate retreat.
"It's very, very important that you leave tonight with that vision. Whether you agree with everything or not, that's not up to me, that is up to you," O'Brien said. "What's up to me is to tell you the vision that we have and the direction that we're going.
One slide identified the four cornerstones of O'Brien's program: academics, football, respect and integrity.
"What is important to me is that the foundation of this program stays," O'Brien said. "What built this program, what people believed in this program will never change, and it's built on four cornerstones."
Acting athletic director David Joyner said O'Brien's preparation and organizational skills were evident from early on in the interview process. A few weeks after being hired, O'Brien handed Joyner a white, spiral-bound booklet about a half-inch thick that contained his policies and procedures for the program.
"I think he's been working on his plan for being a head coach for a long, long time," Joyner said at his campus office.
An assistant coaching veteran, O'Brien cites stints at Georgia Tech under George O'Leary and with the Patriots under Bill Belichick as influences for fulfilling a lifelong pursuit to become a head coach.
The questions about football itself? O'Brien doesn't mind answering them one bit, even if it's about the ongoing saga over the starting quarterback race.
But for some fans like Susan Docker, a 2004 graduate and paralegal from Easton, what happens on the field is the least of their concerns.
"I wouldn't care so much about how the football team does. I just hope that he can restore some semblance of normalcy and moving on in the wake of this situation," she said. "Never to forget what happened, but to move forward."

Michelle Obama gets U.S. athletes and kids moving
New Jordans 2012 For SaleDALLAS (Reuters) - Michelle Obama offered a pep talk on Monday to U.S. athletes who will be competing at the 2012 London Olympics while announcing a nationwide program to get more American children active.
The U.S. first lady, who will lead the U.S. delegation to the opening ceremony of the July 27-August 12 London Olympics, is hoping the American athletes will inspire children to get active as part of her "Let's Move!" initiative.www.shoesjordans23.com
Speaking at the United States Olympic Committee's media summit, Obama announced a joint effort with the USOC and 10 sports federations to get 1.7 million American children, not already involved in exercise programs, to commit to beginner level Olympic sports.Kids Jordan Shoes sale
"This summer, my hope is that together with our children we can support Team USA not just by cheering them on but by striving to live up to the example they have set," said Obama, flanked by athletes expected to challenge for medals in London.
"In the end some of these athletes will bring home the gold but all of them will make our country proud, all of them will inspire a generation of young people to get active."
With obesity among American children on the rise, Obama has spearheaded efforts to get kids physically fit.
According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, obesity now affects 17 percent (or 12.5 million) of all children and adolescents aged two to 19 years old in the United States.
USA Tennis, USA Track and Field and the U.S. Soccer Federation are among the 10 national governing sports bodies hoping to engage hundreds of thousands of children in various programs by the end of the year.
USA Swimming hopes to enroll 530,000 new learn-to-swim participants while USA Cycling will offer free clinics and 30-day memberships to 350 BMX tracks across the country.
Obama and U.S. President Barack Obama have taken an active interest in the Olympic movement, even traveling to Copenhagen in 2009 to pitch Chicago's failed bid to land the 2016 Summer Games, which will be hosted by Rio de Janeiro.Womens Nike Air Shoes
"When I'm sitting in that stadium in London cheering on Team USA, I'll be thinking about all those young people cheering them on at home," said Obama.
"I'll be thinking of the power of the Games to truly inspire a generation and how our Olympic and Paralympic athletes can serve as role models."

Dale Hunter quits as coach of Washington Capitals
Air Jordan Retro Shoes On SaleARLINGTON, Va. (AP) — For quite some time, Washington Capitals general manager George McPhee tried to persuade former player Dale Hunter to return to the team as its coach. This season, McPhee finally got his man — just not for very long.
Hunter quit as Washington's coach on Monday after less than six months on the job, saying he wants to return to his family, his farm and the junior club he owns in Canada.
"It was the right thing to do," Hunter said.
He is the owner of the London Knights of the Ontario Hockey League, and he was the coach until McPhee beckoned in late November after firing Bruce Boudreau. Hunter's brother Mark took over as head coach of the Knights then, and one of Hunter's three children is an assistant. Hunter's 76-year-old father scouts for London; his sisters go to the games; another son lives nearby while attending college; his daughter is in the area, too.
Plus, Hunter and his brother own about 2,000 acres of farmland near his hometown of Petrolia, producing mainly wheat along with corn and soybeans.www.jordansretroforsale.com
"I'm going home," Hunter said at the Capitals' practice facility, a couple of hours after delivering the news to McPhee. "I've got a good thing going there with the family, so I'll stay home."
Hunter said he doesn't plan on returning to the NHL.
He was a successful forward in the league for 19 seasons — one of only four men whose jersey numbers were retired by the Capitals; the only player with 1,000 points and 3,000 penalty minutes in the NHL — but never won a Stanley Cup. Never before an assistant or head coach in the NHL, or even the AHL, Hunter was sought by McPhee in hopes he could bring his on-ice "tough guy" persona to a roster filled with stars more likely to make a pretty pass than drop to the ice to stop a puck.
"He said, 'There's one way to play, and that's the right way to play, and I'll get them playing the right way.' He thought he could, and he accomplished what he thought he could do with them," McPhee said, "and now they're on the right path."
Hunter met with McPhee on Monday morning, two days after the Capitals were eliminated from the playoffs in the Eastern Conference semifinals with a 2-1 loss to the New York Rangers in Game 7.
"We could have very easily won that series," McPhee said.Shopping Results for Kids Jordan Shoes
The GM said he didn't even attempt to change Hunter's mind, because "there's no gray in Dale's life."
"I'd rather have him for six months than not at all, because he had quite an impact on this club," McPhee said. "He really taught this club the 'how' of how to win. They all wanted to win. They just didn't know how. The 'how' is being a team and sacrificing, and he sure got that out of this club."
Hunter went 30-23-7 — a .500 record — in the regular season after agreeing to a one-year deal to take over for Boudreau, helping the Capitals squeeze into the playoffs. Playing a defense-first, possession-oriented system with an emphasis on blocking shots, Washington eliminated reigning Stanley Cup champion Boston in seven games in the first round.Save on Nike Women's Running Shoes
"He got everything out of this team that he could," McPhee said.
Another key move by Hunter was limiting captain Alex Ovechkin's minutes, saying it was dictated by game situations and the opponent's line changes. But it was clear that Hunter wanted players to focus on preventing goals more than scoring them.Fusion Shoes Jordan Sale
Used to playing more than 20 minutes a night, every night, Ovechkin wound up with a career-playoff-low 13? minutes in one game, and also had only his second zero-shot postseason performance.
"For me, personally, it was pretty hard, to be honest with you," Ovechkin acknowledged Monday.
The two-time NHL MVP and team captain called it a "hard year, mentally."
Other players generally said they understood Hunter's motives for moving on — and generally expressed that they would have liked if he'd stuck around.
"I just had a little short chat with him and shook his hand and said thank you. I asked him if there's anything I can do to convince him to stay," forward Brooks Laich said. "He taught us as much about leadership and team aspects and respect amongst players and trusting your teammates as he did about hockey. He was like having another veteran in the locker room. He changed the culture around here a little bit, which the rest of us really enjoyed. He's leaving the team in a better state than he found it."
Whether Hunter's lessons will be followed when a new coach arrives remains to be seen.
"I know it's a long summer here, but hopefully guys remember that to win in the playoffs you have to sacrifice, block shots, do the right things," forward Troy Brouwer said. "That's just what he tried to instill in us the entire time he was here and the entire stretch down the playoffs."
Here's how Hunter summed it up: "You put skill with a hardworking, gritty team, and you've got a winner."
McPhee doesn't have a specific timetable for finding a replacement, saying it might happen by the NHL draft in June or perhaps not until August.
"I'm not in any rush," McPhee said.
NOTES: G Tomas Vokoun said he won't be back. Injuries to him and Michal Neuvirth allowed Braden Holtby to become the starting goalie for all 14 playoff games. "I wasn't planning on being back here anyway. It was never my intention to be here more than a year," Vokoun said. ... F Jay Beagle broke his foot while blocking a shot in Game 5 against the Rangers and stayed in that game, but couldn't balance enough on the ice to play in Games 6 or 7 and needed surgery. He said he expects to be able to skate again within 2? months. ... McPhee said D Tom Poti, who missed all season injured, "may have played his last game in the NHL." ... Among the team's unrestricted free agents: F Alexander Semin. Among the restricted free agents: D Mike Green. "I believe that we're going to win a Cup here," Green said, "and I want to be a part of it."

He was at the world premiere Monday night of his new movie, "Snow White and the Huntsman," with co-stars Charlize Theron and Kristen Stewart in London.
And it was his first red carpet event since becoming a dad.
Hemsworth's partner, Elsa Pataky, has given birth to a daughter named India.
The Australian actor said that "everyone's healthy and well" but he was "a little anxious" to be at the premiere.jordan shoes for sale

"I really killed myself on this movie and I think anytime you see Chris being freezing or like uncomfortable and looking like he's afraid he probably is because he's a total baby," she joked.
And as for the evil and murderous queen? Theron thinks that she's just "a bit tragic" and feels "sorry for her."
"She has no love. We should be nice to her," she smiled.
Also attending the premiere was actor Ray Winstone and director Rupert Sanders.
The movie is out in the U.K. on May 30 and in the U.S. on June 1.

Court refuses to delay BofA, Merrill settlement case
Jordan 8 Fusion on Sale(Reuters) - A federal judge in New York on Monday refused to delay the approval process for a controversial $20 million settlement between Bank of America Corp directors and shareholders who accused the bank of overpaying for Merrill Lynch & Co.
U.S. District Judge Kevin Castel rejected as premature a request by another shareholder group, pursuing a similar lawsuit against Bank of America directors, to intervene in the New York case.
The second group of shareholders, who have taken action in the Delaware Chancery Court, say the New York settlement is too low and could erase its claims.www.buy-jordansretro.com
Bank of America agreed to buy Merrill on September 15, 2008, at the height of the financial crisis. Merrill's losses were a factor in the bank being forced to obtain a second federal bailout, and contributed to a 93 percent drop in its share price over six months. The takeover closed in January 2009.
The second shareholder group has complained that the New York settlement was the result of a "collusive scheme" between directors trying to avoid a big payout and lawyers hoping to win a big fee award.
They also said the payout is too low in light of the damages suffered and $500 million of insurance coverage available to the directors.
"Such arguments are best raised in the settlement approval process," Castel wrote. "At this point the parties here have executed only a memorandum of understanding.... A review of the merits of any settlement is premature."Kid Jordan Shoes For Sale
Michael Schwartz, a lawyer for the Delaware plaintiffs, did not immediately respond to requests for comment. Bank of America spokesman Lawrence Grayson declined to comment.
The New York settlement would resolve claims that Bank of America directors breached their duties for having misled shareholders about Merrill's soaring losses and hidden how Merrill was paying $3.6 billion of bonuses despite those losses.
Among the defendants is Kenneth Lewis, the onetime Bank of America chief executive who engineered the takeover.Save on Nike Women's Jordan Shoes
Earlier this month, Delaware Chancellor Leo Strine put the case before him on hold, as he denied a request by shareholders in that case to block Castel from reviewing the settlement.
Castel also oversees nationwide shareholder litigation against Charlotte, North Carolina-based Bank of America itself over the Merrill purchase, where damages could be much larger.
Lead plaintiffs in the New York case are the Hollywood Police Officers' Retirement System in Florida, and the Louisiana Municipal Police Employees Retirement System.Fusion Shoes Jordan Sale

Facebook gives more details on mobile usage
Jordan Shoes For SaleNEW YORK (AP) — Facebook says the number of people logging in is continuing to grow more quickly than the number of ads delivered.
This is in part because more people are using Facebook on mobile devices, where it shows a very small number of ads, Facebook said Wednesday. The finding implies that Facebook has room to grow in the still-nascent mobile advertising space.www.shoesjordansforcheap.com
Facebook says it saw that trend in the first quarter, and that has continued in the current quarter.

Honda wins appeal over Civic hybrid fuel economy
New Jordans 2012 For Sale(Reuters) - Honda Motor Co <7267.T> has won the reversal of a $9,867 small-claims judgment awarded to an owner who claimed the Japanese automaker fraudulently overstated the fuel economy of her Civic hybrid car.
Tuesday's decision by California Superior Court Judge Dudley Gray overturned an award to Heather Peters, who had dropped out of a class-action settlement to pursue her own lawsuit concerning her 2006 vehicle.
According to her website on the case, www.dontsettlewithhonda.org, Peters is among roughly 1,700 people who opted out of a class-action settlement covering a potential 200,000 Honda owners.
That settlement awarded owners $100 or $200 each, plus rebates if they bought new Hondas, court papers show.
In his decision, Gray said owners could not sue over Honda's use of advertising slogans that its vehicles use "amazingly little fuel" and save "plenty of money on fuel," saying such slogans are "not specific promises of anything."www.shoesjordans23.com
He also said that while Peters' fuel economy may have been less than she expected, most other owners of her type of car come "very close" to estimates from the federal Environmental Protection Agency.
Peters claimed that Honda could owe more than $2 billion had all affected owners opted out of the class-action settlement and sued in small-claims court.
The court that approved the class-action settlement valued that accord at $170 million. Lawyers for the plaintiffs had estimated its value at between $87.5 million and $461.3 million.
Peters, a lawyer, represented herself in the case, and said California law does not allow her to appeal Tuesday's decision.
"Obviously, I'm disappointed," she said in a phone interview. "Honda used to be a brand that would go the extra mile on customer service."Jordan Shoes
Peters said she still has her Civic, and that it has recently been getting 25 miles per gallon. "I wish I could get rid of it, I can't afford to," she said.
Chris Martin, a spokesman for American Honda Motor Co, said the company is pleased with Gray's decision, "which affirms that Honda was truthful in its advertising of the fuel economy potential of the 2006 Honda Civic Hybrid."Cheap Air Jordans
Peters on her website urged other Honda owners to follow her strategy. However, Honda said it has prevailed in small claims court in all but one of 17 similar cases filed this year, and is deciding whether to appeal the ruling it lost.
The case is Peters v. American Honda Motor Co, Superior Court of California, Los Angeles County, No. 11S02156.

Cisco outlook underwhelms, economy fears persist
retro jordans for cheap(Reuters) - Cisco Systems Inc forecast quarterly earnings below Wall Street's expectations, accentuating concerns about global technology spending and the network equipment maker's ability to weather persistent economic weakness.
Shares in the company, which relies on government and corporate spending on Internet gear, slid more than 8 percent after hours, despite beating analysts' third-quarter earnings estimates by a penny.
The company, which Chief Executive John Chambers a year ago admitted had "lost its way" after several quarters of sub-par growth, forecast revenue growth of 2 to 5 percent in the fourth quarter.
That translates into revenue of about $11.4 billion to almost $11.8 billion this quarter, lagging Wall Street's average forecast of $12 billion.www.jordansretroforsale.com
Cisco also estimated earnings of 44 to 46 cents a share, excluding items, in the fiscal fourth quarter ending in July. Wall Street analysts had on average expected 49 cents a share.
Chambers acknowledged that it was it was "really hard to read" what would happen in the second half the year but added that customers have said their plans were to spend more in that period.
"However, in the very next sentence they said we are waiting to see what happens in Europe and what happens with government policy," Chambers said, adding that customers had grown more conservative.
Recession in the euro zone is forecast to last until the third quarter before modest growth returns, a Reuters survey showed, but the median outlook masks a wide spread of opinion, with bears forecasting contraction out to late 2013.
Analysts warned that technology spending by enterprises and governments remained weak, with European and U.S. economies still on shaky ground.
"There is definitely some macro impact. But Cisco is also facing tougher competition from rival HP," said Global Equities Research analyst Trip Chowdhry.
"HP hit bottom and they are on their way up. They have become smarter," he said. "On the other hand, Cisco is suffering from stagnation. They are laying people off. How are you going to innovate and win if you are laying people off? Their remaining employees aren't motivated to win."
    NONE TOO SHABBY?
Shares in Cisco, whose rivals include Hewlett-Packard Co and Juniper Networks , slid to $17.23 in extended trading from a close of $18.78 on Nasdaq.
Analysts had counted on a solid quarter driven by U.S. enterprise and commercial demand, as well as gains in the router and switches markets, offsetting weakness in the public sector and Europe.
Total third-quarter revenue rose 6.6 percent from the year-ago quarter to $11.59 billion, compared with a Street view of $11.58 billion, the company said on Wednesday. It posted a 5 percent jump in revenue from its core business of network switching in the same quarter.Retro Jordans
In its Europe, Middle East and Africa region, revenue rose just 4.6 percent, while U.S. revenue was up an even more anemic 3.2 percent from a year earlier.Air Jordan Retro Shoes For Cheap
Earnings, excluding items, were 48 cents per share compared with the average estimate of 47 cents a share as compiled by Thomson Reuters I/B/E/S.
"It's not too shabby, considering the choppy environment we are in," said Mark Sue, analyst at RBC Capital Market.
"Still, the global macro storm clouds are gathering and it remains to be seen if Cisco can use its new-found execution prowess to navigate this difficult environment."

Nike Air Jordan Shoes ShopDARAA, Syria (AP) — A roadside bomb hit a Syrian military truck Wednesday just seconds after the head of the U.N. observer team drove by in a convoy, demonstrating the fragility of the international plan to end the country's bloodshed.
In Washington, meanwhile, President Barack Obama took steps to extend sanctions against the government of President Bashar Assad, saying Syria poses an "unusual and extraordinary threat" to U.S. national security and diplomatic goals.
The attack, which the regime said wounded 10 Syrian soldiers, emphasized the limits of the international community's plan to use unarmed observers to promote a cease-fire between government troops and rebels trying to topple Assad.Cheap Jordan Shoes
The team of 70 U.N. military observers now in Syria should grow to more than 100 in the coming days. It is unclear when the full team of 300 will arrive. They are to oversee a U.N.-brokered cease-fire that was intended to allow for talks on a political solution to the conflict but began unraveling shortly after it was due to take effect on April 12.
U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon condemned the attack, saying the continuing violence undermines the plan, which is "possibly the only remaining chance to stabilize the country and avert a civil war."
The peace plan has been troubled from the start, with government troops shelling opposition areas and rebels attacking military convoys and checkpoints despite the cease-fire.
Many civilians have grown critical of the plan, saying it does not protect them from regime forces.
U.S. State Department spokeswoman Victoria Nuland said the roadside blast that hit troops escorting the U.N. monitors was "further evidence that the cease-fire is not holding."
Although the daily death toll has dropped in recent days, international envoy Kofi Annan said Tuesday that the level of violence is unacceptable and that the plan's failure could lead to civil war.
Wednesday's blast, witnessed by an Associated Press reporter who was traveling with the United Nations, provided a close-up example of the attacks on security forces that have become almost daily events.
The bomb went off as Maj. Gen. Robert Mood, the Norwegian head of the U.N. observer team, rode in a clearly marked armored white Land Cruiser from the capital, Damascus, to the southern city of Daraa, where Syria's uprising began.Retro Jordan Shoes
The explosion, which occurred at about 11:20 a.m. after the convoy had passed a military checkpoint, shattered the windows of the Syrian military truck and sent up a cloud of smoke and red sand. The truck sped into the city, where several bloodied soldiers were rushed to a hospital.
Speaking to reporters later, Mood said it was unclear whom the bomb was targeting.
"For me the important thing is really not speculating about who was the target, what was the target, but it is to make the point that this is what the Syrian people (are) seeing every day and it needs to stop," he said. "Whoever is doing it and whoever is supporting it."
No one claimed responsibility for the bombing. The regime blames such attacks on terrorists it says are stoking the anti-Assad uprising.Nike Air Jordan Shoes
An exiled rebel leader, Col. Riad al-Asaad, warned that armed groups in the country would resume attacks because the government had flouted the cease-fire, the London-based Asharq al-Awsat newspaper reported Wednesday. Al-Asaad told the paper that "our people are demanding that we defend them.
The streets of Daraa were crowded on Wednesday and stores were open, but the city felt tense amid heavy security, with soldiers deployed everywhere and at least three checkpoints leading to the city center. Long lines of drivers waited to have their IDs checked or cars searched.
Dozens of soldiers stood outside the hotel where some observers have been stationed, keeping a close eye on nearby buildings.
Activists said regime forces fired a mortar shell at the home of an activist in Daraa soon after he met with U.N. observers there on Wednesday, injuring 10 people.
"Each time they come, there is an attack," activist Karam al-Hariri said by phone.
Another activist, Mohammed Abu Hawran, said the observers returned after the attack to take pictures and check on the wounded.
An amateur video posted online showed the tail of an exploded mortar shell on a street with blood spattered on a nearby wall and sidewalk. Activist claims and videos could not be independently verified.
Syria's conflict started in March 2011 with mass protests calling for political reform. The government swiftly cracked down, dispatching tanks, troops, snipers and pro-government thugs to quash dissent, and many members of the opposition took up arms to defend themselves and attack government troops. Many soldiers also switched sides.
The U.N said weeks ago that more than 9,000 people had been killed. Hundreds more have died since.
International diplomacy has failed to stop the violence, and the U.N. has ruled out military intervention of the type that helped bring down Libya's Moammar Gadhafi, in part out of fear that it could exacerbate the violence.
On Wednesday, Obama notified Congress that he is extending a "national emergency" that allows the president to impose a variety of punishments and controls against Syria. The renewal came two days before the state of emergency was set to expire.
An amateur video posted online Wednesday showed a U.N. observer telling a resident in the town of Talbiseh that the team had come to investigate a recent attack and file a report.
The resident said that was not enough, that the conflict has been going on for over a year and there were still army checkpoints around the city. Another video Wednesday from the same city showed the observers walking up to a government tank.
"Why hasn't the army evacuated?" the unidentified resident asked. "The first clause of the Annan plan is that the army withdraw from cities. So where is the army withdrawal?"

Fifteen people beheaded in Mexico, drug gang suspected
cheap air jordansMEXICO CITY (Reuters) - Police found the decapitated and dismembered bodies of 15 people near Mexico's second city Guadalajara on Wednesday, in what appeared to be the latest atrocity by the country's most brutal drug cartel.
Believed to have been carried out by the Zetas gang, it was one of the biggest mass beheadings in the recent history of Mexico, where decapitations have become alarmingly common.
The bodies and heads were stuffed into two vehicles abandoned on the side of a highway in the small town of Ixtlahuacan de los Membrillos, said Tomas Coronado, chief prosecutor for the state of Jalisco.
Some of the bodies had been refrigerated before they were dumped, Coronado said.
A policeman at the scene in Ixtlahuacan said some victims had been so badly mutilated officers could not tell if they were male or female.Buy Cheap Jordan Shoes
The officer said a note by the bodies was signed by the Zetas cartel, a criminal militia led by former Mexican soldiers blamed for some of the worst atrocities in Mexico's drug war.
Guadalajara, known for its high-tech industry and Mexican icons including mariachi bands and tequila, has been a strategic base for drug traffickers since the 1980s.New Jordan Shoes 2012 For Sale

Connecticut OKs $20.5 billion budget, closes deficit
cheap jordans(Reuters) - The Connecticut legislature has approved a $20.5 billion budget for the next fiscal year, which closes a $200 million deficit and adds $100 million in spending on education without increasing taxes, officials said on Wednesday.
The budget, enacted late on Tuesday by lawmakers, includes savings of around $75 million focused on Medicaid, the federal-state health plan for the poor, raising the bar for low-income adults to qualify.
Ben Barnes, the Secretary of the Office of Policy and Management, said the deficit, which was in the current budget that ends on June 30, was closed by tapping $222 million that had been set aside to repay outstanding notes.cheap jordan shoes
"This budget invests millions in public education, funds youth employment programs to help train the next generation and identifies tens of millions in new savings," Andrew Doba, a spokesman for Governor Dannel Malloy, said by email.cheap air jordans
The total spending on Medicaid will be nearly flat at about $4.5 billion, with $60 million of savings coming from closing a loophole by setting a limit on wealth. "Unfortunately, folks with significant assets were able to get into the program," Barnes said.
Another $15 million of savings in Medicaid will be reaped by allowing home health care aides to do more medical care under the supervision of nurses, he said.www.buy-jordansretro.com
The budget allocates about $2.4 billion for education, he said.
Fares for commuters on the MetroNorth railroad will rise about 4 percent starting on January 1 to cover increased operating expenses, Barnes said.
Connecticut enacts two-year budgets, and the total budget for the next two fiscal years is $40.11 billion, up slightly from the current $40 billion accord.
Yearly contribution to the public pension fund will be $100 million higher, raising the total to more than $1 billion, which will help reduce the amount due in future years.

Petrino didn't want 911 call, called security
Jordan Shoes For SaleFAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (AP) — Moments after their motorcycle accident, Bobby Petrino and a female employee told a passer-by not to call 911, then got a ride back to Fayetteville where the Arkansas football coach was met by a state trooper who provides his personal security during the season.
New details of the immediate aftermath of Petrino's crash were in a 911 call released Friday by the state police. The passer-by, Larry Hendren, describes coming upon the accident scene Sunday evening just after Petrino and Jessica Dorrell "were getting up out of the ditch." He said Petrino was "walking, but it looked like his face was bleeding quite a lot."
"The rider and the passenger of the motorcycle declined us to call 911," Hendren told a dispatcher. "They got into a vehicle and headed toward the hospital."
Petrino was taken to a Fayetteville intersection by another passer-by. There, Dorrell left in her own car while Petrino was met by Capt. Lance King, his personal security guard during the season. King took Petrino to a hospital, where he was treated for broken ribs and a cracked neck vertebra.
State police said Friday they planned to question the trooper, looking for "any information Captain King may have learned about the crash" during conversations with Petrino.
"While the inquiries have no direct correlation to the investigation of the motor vehicle crash, the questions are legitimate and worthy of answers," state police spokesman Bill Sadler said. King has been asked to detail "his involvement with coach Petrino and other individuals who've been identified within the crash investigation."Jordan Shoes
The developments came as Arkansas athletic director Jeff Long considered the future of the football coach, whose salary averages more than $3.5 million.
Long appears to have everything he needs to fire Petrino, but the question now is whether he will actually get rid of the coach, who failed to mention having Dorrell with him during the accident and acknowledged having "a previous inappropriate relationship."
Petrino was not cited by state police, and was described by troopers as cooperative after the accident on a rural road 20 miles outside Fayetteville.
What has him in trouble is his attempt to keep anyone from finding out he was riding with Dorrell, a 25-year-old former Arkansas volleyball player whom he hired just last week. A clause in Petrino's contract gives Long the right to suspend or fire the 51-year-old coach for conduct that "negatively or adversely affects the reputation of the (university's) athletics programs in any way."
That language gives Long plenty of leeway to punish Petrino, who is on indefinite paid leave after reviving Arkansas' football program over four seasons and, until now, steering clear of off-field blemishes.
"That (contract) is very favorable to the university," said Matt Mitten, director of the National Sports Law Institute at Marquette. "It gives them a pretty broad range of discretion in determining what negatively affected the university's athletic program or what they think is conduct inconsistent with the head coach."
The accident and attempted cover-up has become the latest scandal to hit major college athletics following shocking child sex abuse allegations against assistant coaches at Penn State and Syracuse last fall. The Penn State case resulted in the firing of revered head football coach Joe Paterno, while head Syracuse basketball coach Jim Boeheim kept his job.www.shoesjordansforcheap.com
The Razorbacks have become a national contender under Petrino, but next season is an afterthought — at least for now — after the stunning admission by the married father of four.
Long only learned Dorrell was on the motorcycle shortly before state police released the accident report on Thursday. Petrino initially said he was riding alone after a day off with his wife at a lake.
Petrino declined further comment on Friday through his agent, Russ Campbell.
"At this point, it is in the university's hands," Campbell wrote in an email.
Long has not offered a timeline for his review, though he did promise to move expeditiously. It is expected to include an investigation into how Dorrell was hired.
Dorrell, who has not returned messages seeking comment, was previously a fundraiser for the Razorback Foundation before being selected March 28 as the student-athlete development coordinator for Arkansas football. She is in charge of organizing on-campus recruiting visits for the team, including initial eligibility for each incoming player.
Long has been through tough decisions before, including firing basketball coach John Pelphrey last year and guiding the football program through the unexpected and sudden death of backup tight end Garrett Uekman from a heart condition in December. But he now faces the difficult choice of keeping a tainted coach who has raised the school's profile or letting him go.
"They kind of have a problem if they don't terminate for cause because then, if he subsequently does something else, it kind of is an indication the university didn't take all that seriously its ability to terminate for cause when it had an opportunity to do it," said Ray Yasser, a law professor at the University of Tulsa who specializes in sports law.
Long joined the Arkansas program in late 2007 before taking over as athletic director to begin 2008. Previously, he worked at Pittsburgh, where he hired Dave Wannstedt after Walt Harris left for Stanford in 2004.
Nothing in Long's career, however, approaches this crisis.
"To be honest, I haven't stopped and thought about whether I've had these things," Long said Thursday night as he announced Petrino's leave. "I haven't taken a chance to sit back and think about if I've had this in my past experience. I can't recall that I've put somebody on administrative leave from a coaching position."
The scandal is likely to be a distraction for days if not weeks as the Razorbacks wrap up spring practice. It is discouraging news for fans who have watched Petrino put up a 34-17 record while becoming a power in the Southeastern Conference. Arkansas was 11-2 last season, finishing the season ranked No. 5.
Petrino was welcomed and embraced by the state, even after his national reputation was smeared following a midseason departure from the Atlanta Falcons in 2007.
Arkansas assistant Taver Johnson, who was put in charge of the program in Petrino's absence, spoke briefly before the Razorbacks took the field for a practice in front of several hundred mostly quiet fans Friday afternoon. He said Arkansas held a short team meeting and it was "business as usual" as the team prepared for its scrimmage. Players were not made available.
Johnson was an Ohio State assistant last season when the Buckeyes were dealing with a memorabilia-for-cash scandal that cost coach Jim Tressel his job after it became clear he knew players were improperly selling Ohio State mementos but did not report it.
"I don't know if you can ever get prepared when you're going through tough situations," Johnson said. "However, any type of adversity, if you've been through it in your life, that definitely prepares you in terms of making sure that you're mentally strong and making sure you're ready to step up to a leadership role."

Mexican art show focuses on weapons, effects
New Jordans 2012 For SaleMEXICO CITY (AP) — An art and photo show focusing on the trade in firearms and their deadly effects in Mexico may soon be going to the United States, the same place where many of the weapons come from.
The show, "A Farewell to Arms. Contraband on the Border," uses photos and artwork to illustrate how the illegal weapons trade has affected Mexico, where more than 47,000 people have died in drug-related violence since late 2006.Cheap Air Jordans
The non-governmental groups Global Exchange and the Washington Office on Latin America plan to take the exhibit to the U.S. capital later this year. It closes in Mexico City on April 15.
Currently at the capital's Tolerance Museum, the show's juxtaposition of images is disquieting, not just because of the violence but because weapons seem to have become ubiquitous.

The Mexican government says that in the first five years of the offensive against drug cartels, it seized 136,000 weapons, 11,000 grenades and 13 million rounds of ammunition.
In 2009, the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives said about 90 percent of the weapons that Mexican authorities recovered and submitted for tracing originated in the United States.
The ATF says many guns used by Mexican drug cartels are bought in the United States, with Arizona and Texas being major sources, but the agency no longer releases estimates of how many.www.shoesjordans23.com
Gun rights supporters in the U.S. said the weapons turned over by Mexico for tracing in the 2009 report were not selected randomly and argued that raised questions about the accuracy of the percentage reported by the ATF.

Stifler's mom, Jim's dad hook up in 'Pie' sequel
Nike Air Jordan Shoes ShopLOS ANGELES (AP) — There's a hint of mature romance — or at least hot sex involving older folks — in the latest sequel to "American Pie."
"American Reunion" brings back the comedy ensemble from the 1999 gross-out hit and includes a comical hookup between Eugene Levy, who plays Jason Biggs' squarer-than-square dad, and Jennifer Coolidge, who plays Seann William Scott's boy-seducing mom.
It all starts as Biggs' Jim, home for a high school reunion, tries to get his widower dad out of the house for a change. Levy ends up at a party at the home of Scott's Stifler, whose mom wound up in the sack with her son's classmate Finch (Eddie Kaye Thomas) in the original movie.Cheap Jordan Shoes
"Stifler's mom needs to grow and progress and actually hook up with something more promising, and I love that I would hook up with Jim's dad," Coolidge said in an interview alongside Levy.
"I think Finch is a nice kid, but I don't think (Stifler's mom) ever dated a nice man," Coolidge continued. "There's something really great about seducing a young guy that hasn't really had much experience, but to seduce an older guy that hasn't had a lot of experience is a great idea. It's a really fun thing for a woman."
For Jim's dad, who spent much of the first three movies awkwardly trying to help his son through embarrassing sexual issues, his evening with Stifler's mom is like nothing he's ever experienced before in his straight-laced life.Retro Jordan Shoes
"When the franchise started, he was just a regular guy coming home from work and finds his son humping a pie," Levy said. "And then his life kind of takes on a purpose. He realizes he kind of screwed up somewhere along the line with his kid and didn't explain things properly or whatever, so he tries to help his son out in as helpful a way as he possibly can."Nike Air Jordan Shoes
Levy and Coolidge's scene together is a reunion for the two, who have collaborated on the mock documentary comedies "Best in Show," ''A Mighty Wind" and "For Your Consideration." They co-starred in the ensemble spoofs, which Levy also co-wrote.
If the "American Pie" franchise continues with more movies, the two could even end up together, Levy and Coolidge speculated.
"I would think he's not the kind of guy who would probably stay single," Levy said. "If he's not with Stifler's mom, then he's out trying to reform some hooker some place, I don't know. He's had an experience with Stifler's mom that I don't think he's ever quite had in his life, and how that affects him down the line, I don't know, outside of just making him generally happier."

US hiring slows amid uncertainty about economy
cheap jordansWASHINGTON (AP) — The U.S. job market slowed in March as companies hit the brakes on hiring amid uncertainty about the economy's growth prospects. The unemployment rate dipped, but mostly because more Americans stopped looking for work.
The Labor Department said Friday that the economy added 120,000 jobs in March, down from more than 200,000 in each of the previous three months.
The unemployment rate fell to 8.2 percent. The rate has dropped nearly a full percentage point since August and is now at its lowest level since January 2009.
But the rate dropped last month because fewer people searched for jobs. The official unemployment tally only includes those seeking work.
Despite the pullback in March, the economy has added 858,000 jobs since December — the best four months of hiring in two years.
A mild winter may have partially influenced the hiring in March. January and February were unusually warm, which allowed construction firms and other companies to hire people for outdoor work several weeks earlier than usual — effectively stealing jobs from March.
The job market might face bigger problems. Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke has warned that the economy is not growing fast enough to sustain recent hiring gains. Many analysts are already scaling back their forecasts for corporate profits in the January-March quarter because of weaker growth.
If employers retreat on hiring, consumers could lose confidence in the economy and slow spending. Slower job growth could also hurt President Barack Obama's re-election hopes.
Economists cautioned that it's just one weak month after three solid gains. Many were encouraged by strong hiring at factories, hotels and restaurants — businesses that reflect the health of the economy.
And government hiring was little changed in March, a positive sign after months of layoffs at the state and local level.www.buy-jordansretro.com
"We are disappointed," said Anthony Chan, chief economist at JPMorgan Wealth Management. "But when you go inside and lift the hood, the numbers look a little better."
Obama emphasized that the economy is still improving, if fitfully.
"It's clear to every American that there will still be ups and downs along the way and that we've got a lot more work to do," Obama said during remarks at a White House forum on women and the economy.
Most investors didn't have the chance to deliver a verdict on the report. The stock market was closed for the Good Friday holiday. Bond markets were open until noon and index futures traded for 45 minutes after the report was released.
Treasury yields and stock futures dropped sharply after the report came out. Both were little changed in the minutes before the report was released.
The biggest hit to the job market in March was at retail stores. They shed nearly 34,000 jobs after cutting nearly 29,000 in February. Temporary help firms dropped almost 8,000 — a potentially bad sign for the job market because companies often hire temp workers before adding full timers.
But manufacturers added 37,000 jobs. Hotels and restaurants added 39,000. And business and professional services added 31,000 jobs.cheap air jordans
There also was improvement in a broader measure of weakness in the job market. The percentage of Americans who are either unemployed, have given up looking for work or have had to settle for part-time work fell from 14.9 percent in February to 14.5 percent last month.
More than 5.3 million Americans, or 42.5 percent of the unemployed, had been out of work for six months or longer in March.
Hiring was slightly better in January and February than first reported. The government revised up job growth in those months by 4,000.
Hourly wages rose 5 cents to an average $23.39. The average workweek, though, fell slightly to 34.5 hours in March.
Obama's re-election hopes may depend on continued improvement in the unemployment rate and job creation.
Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, the likely Republican challenger, this week blamed the president's policies for slow growth and high unemployment.
The Obama campaign has said that Romney would reinstate policies that led to the recession — lower taxes for the wealthy and less regulation for business.cheap jordan shoes
For many, what matters most is the unemployment rate. It was 7.8 percent when Obama entered office in January 2009 and peaked at 10 percent nine months later. Since August, it has dropped from 9.1 percent to March's 8.2 percent.
No incumbent since World War II has faced voters with unemployment higher than 7.8 percent.
Other data suggest the economic recovery is gaining strength. The number of Americans seeking unemployment benefits fell last week to a four-year low, the government said Thursday. Consumers are more confident and spending more.
The service sector expanded at a healthy clip in March. Factories are busier. Companies are ordering more machinery and other equipment.
Still, economists have worried that job growth couldn't sustain the strong December-February pace without stronger economic growth.
And a spike in gasoline prices could discourage force consumers to cut spending on appliances, vacations and home improvements — big purchases that drive growth.
Most economists expect annual growth this year of just 2.5 percent. Normally, it takes annual growth of 4 percent to lower the unemployment rate 1 percentage point over a year.
The job market is improving largely because the pace of layoffs has fallen sharply. The staffing firm Challenger, Gray & Christmas reported Thursday that planned layoffs fell 27 percent from February to March. Hiring, meanwhile, is still running nearly 20 percent below pre-recession levels.

What Workers Really Do on 'Sick Days'
http://www.cheapjordans11store.comEver wonder what people really do on their sick days? Turns out, most of them are actually sick. That's the finding of new research that uncovered various work- and salary-related differences between men and women and revealed some interesting statistics about sick days.
According to the research, conducted by new career website theFIT, 84 percent of the 5,000 people it recently surveyed said they actually were sick or were caring for a sick child the last time they called in sick.
In fact, only one in five men (and only one in seven women) were lying about their most recent sick day, the survey found.Air Jordan Sneakers

Those that were lying about their sick days said they used the day off to play hooky, or take mental health day. Others said they were suffering from hangovers or interviewing for another job.
Not only were women less likely to fake a sick day, they also work longer days and report working more often on vacation than their male counterparts, the survey found.
Fifty-four percent of women report working nine or more hours a day, compared to 41 percent of men.
And, although the majority of respondents (91 percent) confine their working hours to five days each week, almost half (47 percent) claim to work more than eight hours each day, while only 41 percent of men say they work more than eight hours a day.Kids Cheap Jordans

On vacation, most workers (65 percent) do some amount of work. However, women (67 percent) are slightly more willing to work on their vacations than men (60 percent), the research found.
Despite working more, women are more likely to perceive their compensation more positively. While 26 percent of men said their friends would feel bad for them if they knew how much money they made, only 17 percent of women said the same.

Afghan forces killed three NATO soldiers
Nike Jordans For Cheap And Free Shipping!Afghan security forces and police killed three NATO soldiers in two separate incidents Monday. Two of the soldiers killed were British and one was American. The latest "green on blue" attacks came as the top commander of the U.S.-led mission in Afghanistan wrapped up a visit to Washington during which he sought to bolster confidence in the mission that has been shattered by a series of recent incidents, including the March 11 shooting rampage by a U.S. soldier that killed 17 Afghan civilians.
Two British soldiers "were gunned down by an Afghan soldier in front of the main gate of a joint civilian-military base in southern Afghanistan," the Associated Press reported Monday, citing the U.S.-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) for Afghanistan.
In a separate incident, a NATO service member "was shot by an alleged member of the Afghan Local Police" as the soldier approached a local police checkpoint in eastern Afghanistan, ISAF said in a statement, adding that the incident is being investigated. Later reports indicated the third soldier killed was American. Details on his nationality were withheld until his next of kin could be notified, a spokesman for the force, Col. Gary Kolb, told Yahoo News by email Monday.Cheap Air Jordans
Marine Gen. John Allen, the top commander of the mission in Afghanistan, speaking in Washington Monday, sought to downplay concern over the "green on blue" attacks (or those by Afghan security personnel), calling the incidents unfortunate but not unexpected. "On any occasion where you're dealing with an insurgency and where you're also growing an indigenous force ... the enemy's going to do all that they can to disrupt ... counterinsurgency operations," he told reporters at the Pentagon Monday.

But the spike in such attacks in recent weeks has contributed to a plummeting in American public support for the Afghanistan mission. A new poll released Monday by the New York Times/CBS News found that 68% of Americans think the war in Afghanistan is going somewhat badly or very badly, up sharply from the 42% who thought that in November. "The poll found that more than two-thirds of those surveyed — 69 percent — think that the United States should not be at war in Afghanistan," the New York Times wrote on the poll's findings.
The attacks have also raised alarm about the feasibility of a key element of the Obama administration's exit strategy for Afghanistan. Under a transition plan agreed to by President Barack Obama and NATO allies, U.S.-led forces plan to train some 350,000 Afghan army soldiers and police, and transition security responsibility to them in phases, as international forces withdraw from the country by the end of 2014.
The deaths Monday brought the total number of NATO service members killed by Afghan security forces and police this year to 16, and nine of those were American. An Associated Press tally Monday said that Afghan troops or police have killed 80 NATO service members since 2007, and 80 percent of those deaths have been in the past two years.Cheap Jordans For Sale
The U.S. military late last week formally charged Army Staff Sgt. Robert Bales with 17 counts of premeditated murder along with others charges for the March 11 shooting incident that killed 17 Afghan civilians, including a pregnant woman and her unborn baby. Bales' wife, Karilyn, said Monday that her husband loves children, and she finds the crimes he's accused of "unbelievable," including that he killed nine children. "He would not do that," she told NBC's Today Show.
